A woman died after trying to reach the famous 'Into the Wild' bus

CNN)A 24-year-old woman from Belarus died on Alaska's Stampede Trail on Thursday while attempting to visit an abandoned bus made famous by the book and film "Into the Wild."

Veramika Maikamava and her husband Piotr Markielau wanted to reach Fairbanks Bus 142, where "Into the Wild" subject Christopher McCandless died in 1992, Alaska State Trooper spokesperson Ken Marsh told the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.

Markielau called state troopers in Fairbanks on Thursday night to report that his wife had died, according to a news release from the Alaska State Troopers. 

The newlywed couple attempted to cross the Teklanika River, which was running high and fast due to recent rains, when Maikamava was swept under the water, the agency said. Markielau told state troopers that by the time he was able to pull his wife out of the water about 75 to 100 feet downstream, she was already dead.

Villagers in India beat tiger to death

New Delhi (CNN)Villagers in northern India beat to death a female tiger after the animal fatally mauled a man, authorities said.

The incident took place in a protected area of the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve on Wednesday afternoon, Pooranpur Police Inspector Keshav Kumar Tiwari said. 

Four people were arrested and 31 each received an initial complaint from the local forest department.

Video of the attack has circulated on social media showing villagers repeatedly hitting the tiger with large sticks.

RENTON, Wash. -- In a move that seemed increasingly likely in recent days, the Seattle Seahawks and All-Pro linebacker Bobby Wagner have agreed to terms on a three-year extension worth $54 million with $40.2 million guaranteed, a source confirmed to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The deal, which Wagner negotiated himself, makes him the NFL's highest-paid inside linebacker at $18 million per season. As expected, that tops the $17 million average that C.J. Mosley got through the free-agent contract he signed with the New York Jets in March, and it represents a massive jump from the $10.75 million in new-money average from Wagner's 2015 extension.
