Kawhi Leonard on jersey retirement: 'It's a dream come true'

SAN DIEGO -- Steve Fisher put his arm around Kawhi Leonard's shoulder and asked him to look around at a packed Viejas Arena, where 12,414 fans were standing.

"This is your legacy my friend," the former San Diego State coach told his most prized Aztecs recruit.

Returning to the place where he won two conference titles, reached a Sweet 16, worked his way into becoming an NBA lottery pick and even learned how to surf, Leonard watched his No. 15 become the first jersey in program history to be retired by San Diego State on Saturday night.

Typically a man of few words, Leonard let the fans know about the hopes and dreams he carried with him to campus as a lightly recruited prospect from Moreno Valley, California.

"It's a dream come true," Leonard said at halftime before the fourth-ranked Aztecs put away Utah State in an 80-68 win. "Just coming here, I wanted to make a name for myself. I wanted to put San Diego State on the map.

"I want to thank the coaching staff, Coach Fisher for recruiting me -- recruiting me hard -- just wanting me to come to the school."

Fiery crash kills 2 on I-85 near Atlanta

(CNN)Two people died Saturday morning in a fiery crash on Interstate 85 in suburban Atlanta, according to Gwinnett County police.

Crews arrived just before 8 a.m. to find multiple vehicles involved and a tanker truck and passenger vehicle fully engulfed in flames. 

According to a police news release, an unidentified liquid leaked from the tanker, caught on fire and spread through a storm drain, resulting in multiple fires across the interstate.

The fires have since been extinguished. The wreck and fires, which happened in the northbound lanes of I-85 at Jimmy Carter Boulevard, shut down those lanes for several hours, police said. 

Two northbound lanes reopened mid-afternoon, and Gwinnett police said on Twitter around 6 p.m. that the other northbound lanes opened and that all roadway repairs were finished.

Police have not reported what caused the accident or released details on the two people killed, pending notification of family members. 

Other wrecks on I-85 in Atlanta have created traffic nightmares. In May 2017, an elevated section of northbound Interstate 85 caught fire and collapsed. That section of the roadway was closed until repairs were made and the highway reopened in June 2017.

Leila Janah, CEO and entrepreneur who wanted to end global poverty, dies at 37

CNN)Leila Janah, a social entrepreneur who poured her energy into creating job opportunities for the world's poorest communities, has died at 37, one of the companies she founded said. 

Samasource, the artificial intelligence company founded by Janah, confirmed that she passed away on January 24 due to complications from epithelioid sarcoma, a rare soft-tissue cancer. 

Janah was born in upstate New York and raised in a suburb of Los Angeles by her Indian parents. In 2008, she founded Samasource in Kenya with the mission to improve the lives of those living below the poverty line.

The company employs more than 2,900 people in Kenya, Uganda and India, creating data for companies around the world that need to test numerous artificial intelligence products, including self-driving cars and smart hardware. 

The company has helped more than 50,000 people lift themselves out of poverty and has become one of the largest employers in East Africa, according to Samasource's website.

"Leila spearheaded a global impact sourcing movement and was a champion for environmental sustainability and ending global poverty," the company said.

Author Mary Higgins Clark, bestselling 'Queen of Suspense,' dies at 92

(CNN)Mary Higgins Clark, the bestselling "Queen of Suspense" who wrote dozens of suspense novels sold worldwide, has died.

Clark's publisher, Simon & Schuster, confirmed her death in a tweet Friday night. 

"She passed away peacefully this evening at the age of 92 surrounded by family and friends," the publisher said. 

Clark's writing career spanned decades, and included bestselling suspense titles such as "Loves Music, Loves to Dance" and "A Stranger Is Watching." 

Two of her novels were made into feature films, including "A Stranger Is Watching" while others were turned into television movies.
